Intro to Position

NPR is seeking a highly organized, energetic, and data-driven fundraising specialist to pursue philanthropic support for NPR’s mission. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Donor Lifetime Value, the Senior Associate will support the execution of initiatives that increase lifetime value from current donors giving up to $1K a year to NPR and all giving levels for the NPR Network. This work will benefit both NPR and its richly varied network of NPR Member Station partners.

Our ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong attention to detail, collaborative mindset, and someone that thrives in the often fast-paced digital news environment. They must have the ability to communicate effectively, synthesize feedback from multiple stakeholders and coordinate multiple projects. They should be passionate and knowledgeable about the sustainability of media and journalism while actively seeking information on the latest innovations and opportunities for NPR.

Responsibilities

  • Identity and prioritize fundraising opportunities to retain current supporters; Support personalized and behavior-driven retention.
  •  Support the development of a robust pipeline of donors for cultivation by the mid-level and major donor teams. 
  • Analyze fundraising reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics for donor retention, upgrade, and renewal campaigns.
  • Support the execution, and analysis of effective A/B tests for retention tactics, channel messaging, and incentives.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure timely delivery of materials and execution of campaigns across multiple initiatives.
  • Assist in the creation of project briefs, presentations, and data visualizations.
  • Assist in generating and maintaining internal-facing process and guideline documents.
  • Build trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders to foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and curiosity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. 

Work Location & Requirements

  • NPR Remote-Permitted: This is a remote-permitted role. This role is based out of our Washington, D.C. office, but the employee may choose to work on a remote basis from a location that NPR approves. You will have the option of working (a) remotely from a location of your choosing within the United States that is supported by NPR; (b) on-site at an NPR facility, based on the availability of desks and approval from NPR; or (c) a combination of both. Regardless of where you choose to work from, you may be expected to travel to other locations from time to time to perform the duties of your position.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2+ years experience in fundraising at a nonprofit organization.
  • Knowledge of various fundraising models and donor retention strategies. 
  • Experience with moves management and donor pipeline strategies, particularly for upgrading and retaining donors.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret fundraising data and donor metrics to identify trends, measure campaign success and uncover areas of opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments, set priorities, and meet short deadlines.
  • Outstanding collaboration and communication skills with a proven ability to work cross-functionally and gain the support of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills. Attention to detail is essential.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify potential obstacles and proactively present solutions. 
  • Demonstrated interest in the media landscape with knowledge of the latest trends and best practices.
  • Demonstrated interest in cultivating and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Must understand and appreciate NPR’s mission.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience using storytelling narratives and data-driven insights to deepen supporter engagement.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (preferably Salesforce) and other fundraising software.
  • Familiarity with AI tools for personalization, segmentation, or content generation.
  • Familiarity with user experience (UX) principles as applied to digital donor journeys.
  • Experience in media

Job Type

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: The U.S. based anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $32.69 - $36.06 per hour. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum hourly rate NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
