The Opportunity: 

Mattel is seeking a Senior Manager, Climate Action, to join the Global Sustainability & Social Impact (GSSI) team to build a company-wide climate strategy, including helping Mattel understand the shifting climate-related landscape, advising leadership on potential risks and opportunities, overseeing GHG inventories and decarbonization efforts, and contributing to climate risk/broader risk management efforts.

This role will work to embed climate action strategies and accountabilities in business strategy and operations, through strategic process and influence. You will lead Mattel in setting and validating a Science-based Target, co-developing GHG reduction strategies across the company’s owned and operated facilities and supply chain, driving implementation across owned and operated facilities and select supply chain initiatives, and track and support reporting on progress, both internally and externally. This is a highly cross-functional and influence-driven role which requires deep integration and partnership with internal functions and industry stakeholders.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

Reporting to the Senior Director, Sustainability & Social Impact, the responsibilities of this role will include but not be limited to:

  • Partnering with EHS, Procurement, Manufacturing, and other key teams to build and drive Mattel’s climate strategy and decarbonization roadmaps.
  • Leading efforts to set, submit, seek validation, and, ultimately, meet Mattel’s science-based target.
  • Mobilizing cross-functional working group(s) to action Mattel’s climate strategy and provide progress updates to the relevant leadership and governance bodies, supporting enterprise-wide accountability and decision-making.
  • Overseeing annual GHG accounting/development of Mattel’s carbon footprint in accordance with established protocols.
  • Partnering with GSSI, Financial Reporting, Internal Audit, and other key teams on climate risk assessments, scenario modeling, and risk mitigation and resiliency efforts.
  • Partnering with GSSI Data Analytics to build out climate data analytics including the development of models and scenario analysis tools to support understanding of emissions hotspots and pathways to achieving goals.
  • Partnering with GSSI and Product Development on product level emissions measurement and enterprise LCA strategy.
  • Partnering with GSSI and Procurement/Franchise to support their work with vendors and licensees, and partner with other key teams to ensure climate action aligns to enterprise roadmap.
  • Evaluating opportunities to join coalitions (e.g. RE100) and various supplier management programs made available through our business partners.
  • Providing oversight of owned/operated facility energy reduction and sustainable transportation strategies and roadmaps, in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Preparing for forthcoming climate legislation and providing content for internal and external reporting initiatives such CDP, annual Sustainability and Social Impact (SSI) reports, and contribute to the development of a climate transition plan.
  • Leading and co-creating relevant business cases in a complex and fast paced environment and contributing to building climate finance capacity within the organization and finance functions.
  • Considering future strategies including 2050 net zero roadmap and integration of nature/land-based climate solutions.
  • Assessing evolving climate and industry trends and conduct peer benchmarking, including by developing external relationships with climate experts and brands, and through collaboration platforms and working groups.
  • Managing and providing mentorship to Associate Manager, Sustainability and Climate.
     

What We’re Looking For:

  • 8+ years working in climate change and sustainability for a large corporation or institution (knowledge of global supply chains is a must, CPG or retail experience an asset).
  • Strong knowledge of climate change and GHG emissions accounting including GHG protocol, Science Based Targets, and renewable energy procurement.
  • Demonstrated experience developing enterprise-level strategies, business cases and implementation roadmaps.
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills and executive presence, with ability to bring business relevance to conversations. Excellent written and presentation building skills.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing internal and external stakeholders to drive cross functional change and carbon reduction initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to provide business insights and present data/communicate strategy in a business relevant and compelling way.
  • Experience with strategy development and implementation.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and an ability to adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Demonstrated mentorship and people leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated a growth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.
