About the Position

The Senior Manager, Global Finance and Operations will lead critical functions including accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and strategic financial analysis. This position will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of CIVIC’s global financial activities, supporting data-driven decision-making, and aligning financial processes with programmatic goals.
The position will serve as a key business partner to senior leadership, program directors, and field operations, driving excellence in budgeting, financial systems, internal controls, and global accounting procedures. It will also be critical in establishing CIVIC’s new hub in Brussels, in accordance with local and EU regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Management

  • Lead full-cycle monthly accounting processes including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and balance sheet account reconciliations;
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity to ensure adequate available funds;
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, internal policies, and donor regulations across HQ and field offices;
  • Manage timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;
  • Oversee external audit, tax filings, and relevant international submissions;
  • Working with the Senior Manager, Global Accounting and Finance, consolidate global financial transactions and reporting from field offices;
  • Serve as primary contact for auditors, financial institutions, and vendors;
  • Provide analysis and meaningful insights into operating performance;
  • Prepare financial schedules and reports as requested by Operations and Program Directors, for routine monthly management.



Budgeting, Forecasting and Analysis

  • Work with the Senior Manager, Budgeting & Analysis to produce the organization-wide annual budget and develop rolling forecasts;
  • Monitor spending against approved budgets, identify variances, and provide actionable insights;
  • Collaborate with program and operations teams to align budgets with strategic goals and grant requirements;
  • Review budget proposals and provide cost analysis to support project design and execution;
  • Design and implement effective budgeting and forecasting models across programs and departments, in conjunction with the Senior Manager, Budgeting & Analysis;
  • Analyze organizational financial performance, indirect cost recovery (ICR), and restricted vs. unrestricted funding;
  • Deliver financial analysis to support high-level strategic planning and board decision-making;
  • Provide regular financial reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to leadership.



Development and Administration of CIVIC’s European Entities

  • Play lead role in establishment of CIVIC’s Belgian entity;
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and legal requirements for entities in Switzerland, The Netherlands and Belgium;
  • Oversee opening of local bank accounts and manage banking relationships;
  • Work with donors to receive direct funding into and make payments from such accounts.



Team Leadership and Capacity Building

  • Supervise and mentor accounting, budgeting, and finance staff across HQ and field offices.
  • Build and sustain a high-performance finance team that supports organizational growth and learning.
  • Foster a collaborative, transparent, and mission-driven finance culture.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of nonprofit full-cycle accounting experience with at least five years in a management or senior leadership role overseeing accounting, budgeting, and/or financial analysis;
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business preferred.
  • CPA or equivalent accounting qualification required;
  • Knowledge of working with international NGOs (INGO);
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and nonprofit audit practices.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize competing projects and tasks with ease and professionalism;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in English and French;
  • Must be able to keep CIVIC matters strictly confidential;
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and accounting software skills;
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct is preferred;
  • CPA or equivalent accounting qualification required; master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business preferred.
  • Valid authorization to work in Switzerland at the time of this application without the need for current or future visa sponsorship. Nationals preferred.
