Black Feminist Future (BFF) is an initiative informed by the legacy of Black feminist organizing, grounded in the current pulse of movements, and located at the emergent need to amplify the power of ALL Black women and girls in organizing and building power for the 21st century. BFF is a movement incubator that focuses on the dynamic possibilities of galvanizing the social and political power of those who have the lived experience of being a Black woman or girl including  but not limited to trans, cis, gender non conforming, non binary, LGBTQIA, and other gender marginalized  people. Our vision of Black feminisms values and centers those who are most marginalized within our communities. BFF intends to amplify and build the leadership of Black feminist leaders and increase the capacity of Black feminist movement building.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Power Building, Senior Organizer, Programs is responsible for coordinating, supporting, and implementing Black Feminist Future’s Transformative Organizing Programs such as: political education, leadership development, and capacity building. This position builds spaces for learning, transformation, and connection that center Black feminist values and the lived experiences of working class Black women, girls, and gender expansive people. They will support the management of cohorts, the design of curricula, and coordinate national and regional program offerings.

The Senior Organizer, Programs are a vital element of the Power Building Department. They help strengthen the transformative learning and programs that support the base building, organizing efforts,  and development of the BFF Hives/chapters and membership. The Senior Organizer of Programs also collaborates with the Senior Director of Power Building to amplify and enact a powerful vision of long-term material and structural transformation while directly supporting members and Hives/chapters. 

They are experienced at supporting transformative learning environments and experiences that deepen one’s analysis, and support individual, collective, and structural transformation. They are the on-the-ground organizers within the BFF-National office ensuring place-based Hives/chapters, and members are properly educated, trained, and skilled up, executing programs in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, values/Meridians, and strategic priorities. 

This role is subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and receives union representation. Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Organizer is responsible for executing BFF’s key programs in coordination with other BFF staff, members, and partner organizations. In collaboration with the Senior Manager of Programs, the Senior Organizer is expected to synthesize program strategy, research, and political education into coherent external organizing, designed to strategically advance programming for members and chapters. This Senior Organizer position is focused on Programs to support member and chapter transformative organizing, mobilizing, strategizing, and developing the critical consciousness of the membership.

Program Design & Facilitation Support:

  • Support with the development of BFF’s transformative programs that integrate strategic organizing skills, developing and deepening members’s political analysis, offering technical assistance skills, etc.
  • Aid with the design and facilitate in-person and virtual workshops, training, and leadership development cohorts.

Coordinate Transformative Organizing Programs

  • Support with the execution, implementation, and evaluation of BFF’s signature programs such as: the Organizing Schools–Some of Us Are Brave and Harriet’s Troop, and any forthcoming transformative programs such as: political education, technical assistance training, and research training for Hives/chapters and members.
  • Support with the execution of BFF’s signature bi-annual conference, Get Free, as assigned to them by the Senior Manager of Programs;
  • In collaboration with the Senior Manager of Programs, assist BFF members in hosting On the Road to Get Free Activations;
  • Support building out BFF’s national and transnational networks: which include supporting the execution of of the Okra Collaborative, Protect, Love, and Defend, and the Constellation Programs (Abortion Is Freedom (AIF), Channel Black, and the Black Reproductive Justice (RJ) Speakers' Bureau, AB+ Plug Training, AIF Technical Assistance).

Political Education Curricula Coordination:

  • Support coordinating curricula and toolkit development rooted in Black feminist praxis and popular education methodology.
  • Support developing transformative learning environments and critical consciousness raising experiences to help deepen and sharpen the analyses of BFF’s base of members and organizers.

Program and Project Coordination:

  • Coordinate program logistics, budgets, programming schedules, registrations, and evaluation processes.
  • Help design and coordinate the programming processes and execution for consistent and smooth member experience.
  • Support coordinating with external facilitators, internal BFF staff, trainers, and partners to build the capacity of the membership base.
  • Help support with the coordination of meetings, trainings, and building out the BFF transnational and national networks.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Evaluation:

  • Collaborate with the Campaigns and Organizing staff to ensure synergy across programs and initiatives, and implementations.
  • Help with cross articulation of the full BFF teams to support the overall mission and work of the Power Building Department and Programs team.
  • Support with the assessment and evaluation of program effectiveness and integrate participant feedback to refine future offerings.

The Senior Organizer will be a visionary team player grounded in a Black feminist praxis. The ideal candidate is proficient in time management and effective prioritization, detail-oriented, and possesses strong communication skills. The Senior Organizer will be unwavering in building power at scale through organized people, strategic action, and ideas centered on Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people's experiences. 

  • At least five years of organizing, base building, and leadership development experience
  • Proven ability to build and cultivate relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, and create and implement organizing campaign plans
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise, make contingency plans, and shift plans as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to have strong meeting facilitation and coordination: can design engaging meetings with a focused agenda, strong facilitation, and clear next steps
  • Able to provide robust analysis and political development to BFF's members
  • Experience with designing leadership development programs, training curriculums, and community outreach.
  • Experience managing volunteers
  • Experience with database management and upkeep
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, and manage complex projects with limited supervision; solution-oriented and a self-starter willing to develop tools and systems that support their work.

  • Communication. Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Must possess a strong track record as an implementer of information in a way accessible and understandable by all levels of staff.

Travel

35% of travel is expected, including but not limited to BFF’s weeklong semiannual all-staff advances, occurring in the spring and fall of each calendar year, as well as attendance at departmental advances the Managing Director oversees. Intermittent travel related to BFF programming needs may also occur. 

Location

Black Feminist Future is a hybrid organization, based in Atlanta, GA with staff working both remote and in office with mandatory in person staff and team meetings and in office visits during the year.
