Senior Policy Advisor, EU Energy Diplomacy Lead (Internal Vacancy) 

E3G is looking for a Senior Policy Advisor to join its Global Energy Transition team to develop and lead our work on EU energy diplomacy and energy geopolitics. 


Role 

E3G is an independent climate change think tank with a global outlook. We are world leading strategists on the political economy of climate change, dedicated to achieving a safe climate for all.  

This Senior Policy Advisor role will lead on developing and delivering E3G’s strategy to shape EU international energy diplomacy. The candidate will work with EU policymakers, CSOs and with colleagues across E3G to influence the EU’s global influence on the clean energy transition, fossil fuel phaseout and global gas diplomacy.  


Key Responsibilities  

  • Tracking developments in EU energy diplomacy and geopolitics. 
  • Lead analysis, engagement and advocacy to ensure the EU considers the energy transition & and a fossil fuel phaseout a geopolitical priority.  
  • Shape EU international energy diplomacy, including strategic and regional priorities ahead of major decision points and summits.  
  • Support E3G work on the EU’s approach to energy outcomes at COP & UK-EU cooperation in the global context. 
  • To support this work, build network of EU and key Member State officials, across Commission, Council and Parliament and within relevant international bodies on energy diplomacy and geopolitics, in particular on EU oil and gas geopolitics as well as key regions of interest. 
  • Produce internal and external communications materials and undertake short pieces of wider analysis.  
  • Collaborate with E3G colleagues working on multilateral fora, including international energy summits, climate weeks and COPs. 
  • Contribute to Brussels office and Energy Transition Petal management, mentoring and strategic development as required. 
  • Manage grant funding and support fundraising efforts.  
  • Travel will be required.

Experience and Skills  

The successful candidate will bring relevant professional experience with progressive levels of responsibilities and a track record of achievements in the following areas:  

  • Has several years of experience working in this field and relevant qualifications.  
  • Has an established professional network on energy and EU energy diplomacy.  
  • Has experience in developing and implementing outcome-focused strategies. 
  • Demonstrate a track-record of building, leading and managing stakeholder relationships and partnerships. 
  • Is a strong team player, committed to support shared team outcomes and achieving E3G’s objectives. 
  • Communicates very effectively in written and spoken English.  
  • Has experience of advocacy, including influencing senior officials and senior decision-makers from government and external organisations. 
  • Some experience supporting the development of staff.

  • The indicative gross monthly salary range for this position is between €3,947 to €4,167 in Brussels, dependent on experience and qualifications of the chosen candidate (13th month and holiday allowance included).

E3G is unable to provide relocation assistance to candidates who would need to change locations in order to take up this position.
