Senior Researcher, Public Banks and Development, Berlin or London

E3G is looking for a Senior Researcher to join its Public Banks and Development team. The role will support the delivery of our work on political engagement with governments who are shareholders of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs). This role specifically will work with MDB shareholders from the Global South, with a geographical focus on Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America. The geographical focus might be narrowed down, depending on the candidate’s profile.  

This role will be based in either E3G's Berlin or London office and will contribute to delivering E3G’s work on understanding and forming coalitions of Global South shareholders of MDBs, through a combination of political analysis and external engagement.

Key Responsibilities  

• Monitor and analyse developments in Global South countries with focus on climate finance and develop a strategic approach to engage with these countries.  

• Build coalitions of Global South countries as MDBs shareholders with the overall goal to understand bottlenecks of financial flows into these countries.   

• Manage and grow relationships with external partners, including CSO, think tanks and National Development Banks in the Global South.  

• Produce and project-manage internal and external communications, reports, briefings, research and analysis.  

• Work collaboratively and flexibly across E3G’s PBD to support objectives of colleagues in the other E3G offices.  

• Provide administrative support where needed, including preparing and organising meetings and events and writing minutes.  

• Some travel might be required but we are open to discussing this if this would otherwise become a barrier to your application.  

Experience and Skills  

Essential Experience:
 

• A high-quality degree or professional qualification in a relevant area (you do not need a master's degree).  

• A strong background in international relations with at least three
  years of relevant experience, preferably with work experience in a Global South context.  

• A strong understanding of developments in the Global South, with a focus on climate finance. 
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate insights into actions.  
• An ability to communicate clear, accessible research and to present ideas clearly and credibly with colleagues and key external stakeholders.
  
   

• Be a supportive, collaborative, and open colleague and team player.   

Desirable Experience:  
 

• Confidence engaging with external stakeholders including senior representatives from government, politics, business, and civil society.  

• Experience with grant management, e.g. with the International Climate Initiative (IKI).  

• Good time management, focus, and organisational skills.  

What we offer

• The annual salary in London is between £41,918 and £44,000, and in Berlin €45,990 and €47,500 depending on the candidate’s professional experience and skills.

E3G is unable to provide relocation assistance to candidates who would need to change locations in order to take up this position. E3G will require candidates to demonstrate that they have the right to live and work in Berlin or London.
