The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.
We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.
These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.
We are looking for a Strategic Partnerships Adviser to join our team.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will be working as part of Government Relations and Strategic Partnerships (GRSP), the team leading Wellcome’s diplomatic efforts, advocating for change in the world, and building the knowledge and partnerships that help reach our goals.
This is an exciting time to be joining Strategic Partnerships as we grow our collaborations across sectors to have an impact on some of the biggest science and health challenges facing the world. You will get the opportunity to test out your partnership building acumen, working closely across Wellcome teams – especially our Solutions Programmes, Policy & Partnerships, Equity and Engagement teams. You’ll build impactful collaborations with key partner organisations, particularly philanthropy and the private sector, and you’ll bring insights from the external environment and work with senior leaders to deepen our relationships with key partners, to help ensure that the research we fund leads to impact for communities most affected by health challenges.
What will I be doing?
In this role, you’ll lead strategic partnership projects from planning through to delivery—building trusted relationships, managing risks and budgets, and coordinating efforts across teams to achieve meaningful impact. We’re a team, working together to drive partnerships that lift Wellcome’s ambition – and in this particular role you will start with a focus on one of our major philanthropic partnerships , as well supporting the scoping of how we can increase philanthropic and private sector engagement and investment in infectious diseases. You’ll work closely with internal and external stakeholders to shape partnership strategies, influence outcomes, and ensure alignment with Wellcome’s mission. As part of a collaborative team, you’ll also contribute to an inclusive culture and uphold Wellcome’s values and policies in everything you do.
As a Strategic Partnerships Adviser, you will:
Lead strategic partnership projects from planning through to delivery, managing risks, budgets and stakeholder relationships to achieve impactful outcomes.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal teams and senior external stakeholders to support both priority projects and ongoing collaboration.
Coordinate cross-functional efforts using a matrix management approach, ensuring alignment with Wellcome’s mission and partnership strategies.
Monitor project progress, adapt plans as needed, and report on achievements to inform decision-making and future direction.
Provide expert insight on partnership development, acting as a credible and influential voice across Wellcome and externally.
Contribute to an inclusive and values-led culture, ensuring all work aligns with Wellcome’s policies, principles and budgetary guidelines.
Is this job for me?
This role is ideal for someone with experience in international strategic partnerships—particularly in global health or development sector —and a strong understanding of the research and development ecosystem. If you have experience managing complex projects, building stakeholder relationships, and navigating dynamic environments with creativity and purpose, we’d love to hear from you.
To apply for this role please submit an update CV and answer 2 application questions to demonstrate that you meet the minimum requirements for the role.
Minimum Criteria:
Experience of Strategic Partnerships work internationally, including engaging philanthropy and industry/private sector
