About the Position
The UX Architect is a part-time role responsible for developing and leading vision-focused and strategic design work and helping others across the organization gain user-centered design and design thinking skills that improve collaboration and outcomes. The UX Architect will collaborate with a wider team, including the product manager, developers and researchers, and strategic communications, on the User Experience on the Internet Society’s programmatic platforms.
The position reports to the Resource Director and will be assigned to the Internet Insights and Innovation Program. The position will also have a dotted line reporting to the respective project leads and indirect reporting to the Senior Vice President overseeing the projects and program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design direction:
- Develop and lead vision-focused and strategic design work, such as design visions, concept definition, and product content.
- Work with the product manager and development team to understand community and target audience needs and clarify problem statements and value propositions.
- Test and develop new recommendations based on user feedback, analytics, stakeholder interactions, and trends in the community.
- Define information architecture, creating wireframes and conceptual designs, content design and establishing UI needs.
- Collaborating with UI/visual designers to create mockups and high-fidelity designs, and to evolve visual design.
- Collaborate with product development and project leads and communicate vision to senior leadership.
- Champion design and its value to and impact on the Internet Society’s mission for an Internet for all.
- Design opportunities:
- Leading research with the Product Manager to discover and gather requirements and understand user needs, turning these into insights, concepts, and recommendations for evidence-based design.
- Collaborating with the Product Manager and team to plan and scope features and product lines, and prioritizing design work to fit the agile development cycle.
- Holding regular update sessions to create internal inter-visibility.
- Identify opportunities for alignment with feature development.
- Identify and monitor ongoing design needs.
- Managing operations:
- Establishing tooling and defining ways of working for product design work within the agile development cycle.
- Maintaining design documentation such as design principles, accessibility standards, style guides, and component libraries.
- Writing product structural components, release notes for features, and collaborating with strategic communications on messaging around features or updates as appropriate.
- Team building:
- Helps identify the need for and establish product teams within the Internet Society.
- Supports strategic communications to identify design resources.
- Overseeing, by mentoring and coaching, other designers and content designers as relevant.
- Embedding design at the Internet Society:
- Helping others across the organization gain user-centered design and design thinking skills that improve collaboration and outcomes.
- Establishing a culture of hypothesis-driven, evidence-based design, along with a culture of experimentation and learning.

Desired Qualifications
- A university-level qualification in information technology or a related field is highly preferred.
- Five to ten years of UX experience.
- Strong understanding of the entire UX design cycle.
- Experience working in Agile, Kanban and other delivery models.
- Experience with data-driven product design, analytics platforms, or online communities.
- Demonstrable interest in Internet measurements, insights, and data-driven analysis.
- Proficiency in tools such as JIRA, Trello, or similar.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional people, collaboration and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote, cross-functional team environment and to work across multiple time zones.
- Passion for the mission of the Internet Society and Commitment to the Internet Society’s values and objectives.
- A good understanding of the Internet architecture, web technologies, Internet-related issues, and Internet technical organizations.
- An ability to read, write and communicate fluently in English. Proficiency in public speaking is an added advantage. (Proficiency in one or more additional languages desirable.)
- Ability to travel as needed.

Compensation and benefits for this position will be paid in local currency and based on the country and geographic location’s local salary and benefits market data for the position. Exact pay will be based on factors including but not limited to relevant qualifications, experience, geographic location, education, business and organizational needs.
