iMentor is seeking 1 Chicago based customer service and detail-oriented Volunteer Screening Coordinator (VSC) to join the National Screening Team. Their mission: iMentor Screening uses program knowledge to evaluate prospective mentors for safety, consistency, collaboration and mission alignment to build high-impact relationships that drive student success.
Every year, iMentor recruits around 2,000 adults to serve as mentors to high school students in our program. VSCs play a pivotal role in preparing these mentors to support mentees, guiding applicants through a screening process that assesses their suitability for the program. Through thoughtful interviews and application reviews, VSCs will oversee iMentor’s screening pipeline from start to finish and will set the stage for a volunteer experience that is welcoming, energizing and impactful.
VSCs will connect with prospective mentors from NYC, Chicago and Baltimore. This VSC role will also support the Chicago Mentor Engagement team’s on-site monthly Background Check events.
This position is being offered on a full-time (40-hour/week) hybrid and seasonal basis. Additionally, iMentor provides excellent and full benefits for this seasonal role. Volunteer Relations- Volunteer Intake: Conduct and transcribe 14-16 30-minute phone interviews per week, equitably assessing applicants for motivation and program fit, reviewing references and making recommendations regarding volunteer eligibility. Navigate sometimes difficult conversations.
- Database Management: familiarity and comfort as system administrator; will utilize Salesforce, Outlook and Form Assembly to manage and track confidential volunteer data, doing so quickly and carefully.
- Customer Service: Serve as a personal guide for the applicant, navigate regional and logistical nuances about the program and provide excellent customer service throughout the intake journey.
Administrative Tasks- Pipeline Management: Manage an efficient communications cadence with applicants, guide volunteers towards completing next steps.
- Ongoing Communications: Proactively voice updates, needs and concerns to the manager to achieve tasks and work through challenges.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in team calls and team projects, providing insight about processes and applicant eligibility as needed.
- Legal / Compliance: Follow all risk management and youth development standards set by the National Screening Team and iMentor. Follow all Screening compliance procedures and internal iMentor communication norms.
Chicago Background Check Support- Attendance Coordination: Schedule volunteers for on-site Background Check events, send reminders before the event, and manage attendance on excel.
- Day of Event On Site Support: Responsible for the set up and cleanup of the events space. Support volunteers with paperwork and next steps.
Qualifications- Minimum two to three years of professional career experience working in nonprofits, customer service, communications, social sciences, HR and/or college admissions.
- Ability to travel to Chicago iMentor office monthly for Background Check on-site events on the following Saturdays - July 19, August 16, September 27, October 25, November 15, December 12
- Self-directed and able to work independently and in remote work settings. Highly organized with excellent time management skills that suit a fast-paced work environment.
- Experience in Salesforce or similar CRM, with ability to learn systems quickly.
- Transcribing is a key function of this role, minimum of 40 – 60 WPM.
- Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with empathy, across difference and with diplomacy.
- Collaborative, resourceful, strategic, proactive and open to feedback.
- Interest in social impact spaces, youth development and educational opportunities.

Compensation & Benefits- Salary is $52,000 per annum.
- Fully remote working arrangement (must have home internet). A laptop is provided.
