Job Profile
Under the direct supervision of the WASH officer, the WASH Assistant will provide support in the implementation and monitoring of RI’s WASH activities at all targeted HFs and supported communities. He/she will closely monitors the activities of WASH monitors in HFs to monitor water quality, manage healthcare waste, and support infrastructure development. Additionally, you'll coordinate training sessions in WASH, IPC, and Health Waste Management, participate in infection control committees, oversee procurement processes, estimate supplies, and ensure protocol compliance and coordinating with other partners in the camp for WASH and medical waste management.

Key responsibilities
Supervision, Coordination, and Technical Follow-up
- Supervision of WASH Monitors in health facilities and following up on their daily performance to ensure implementation of activities related to water, sanitation, and hygiene systems in line with approved technical plans and standards.
- Monitoring the implementation of physical, chemical, and biological water quality tests in health facilities by supervising WASH monitors
- Following up on the operation of water and sanitation treatment systems or medical waste disposal facilities through monitoring and support of WASH monitors
- Overseeing the implementation of infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols in health facilities in coordination with IPC committees and medical teams, through guiding and supervising the monitors directly responsible for implementing these measures and ensuring health staff comply with established procedures.
- Monitoring processes of collecting, sorting, and transporting medical waste until its final disposal, by supervising the monitors carrying out these tasks, and reviewing records and reports to ensure compliance with health and environmental procedures, without executing these tasks personally.
- Following up on the availability of cleaning, disinfection, and IPC supplies in health facilities by reviewing monitors’ field reports and ensuring these materials are adequately available and properly managed according to established procedures.
- Maintaining continuous coordination with the WASH Officer and the MEAL team to develop effective mechanisms for monitoring and follow-up and ensuring the quality of implemented activities.
- Preparing and submitting periodic technical reports to the WASH Officer, including achievements, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
Technical Assessment and Support
- Participating in conducting technical assessments of health facilities to identify water, sanitation, and hygiene needs.
- Contributing to the preparation of engineering designs, drawings, and bills of quantities related to construction, rehabilitation, or renovation works of health infrastructure.
Training and Capacity Building
- Contributing to training WASH Monitors and health facility staff on infection prevention protocols and water, sanitation, and waste management.
- Providing continuous technical support and guidance to field teams to ensure quality performance and adherence to technical and humanitarian standards.

Person Specification
Skills, knowledge and expertise required for the role.
Essential criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or other related field
- At least 2 years’ practical experience in management of WASH facilities in health care setting or health
- Experience in development of health care infrastructure designs, BoQ and supervising constructions.
- Experience in supervising or following up on field teams
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to prepare accurate and clear technical reports.
- Ability to perform fieldwork and travel frequently between various work sites and under diverse operating conditions.
- Good computer skills with proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication skills, teamwork spirit, and the ability to solve problems and make quick decisions.
Desirable criteria
- Fluency in English
- Experience in the humanitarian sector preferred
- Previous experience with NOGs.
