WordPress Developer and Elementor Specialist (Contractor)

Contract duration: 12-month consultancy, with possibility of extension based on program needs and mutual interest

Level of Effort: Approximately 20 hours per week, with flexibility for additional requests

Position Purpose

Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) 's website(s) are built using WordPress with Elementor Pro, with extensive use of ACF Pro, CPT UI, and Code Snippets, and are hosted on WPEngine. We are actively templatizing components to streamline page creation and require support for improvements and new functionality. 

We are seeking a WordPress Developer to provide hands-on development to implement functionality adjustments and develop new pages from approved designs. The contractor will work in close coordination with RTSL's Web Solutions Manager, Design team, and Communications team to provide guidance on platform capabilities and proactively suggest better solutions and alternative approaches. 

Core Tasks and Activities

• Collaborate with the Design Team on new initiatives by providing insight from the development perspective on new pages, menu adjustments, interactive elements, and functionality requirements.  
• Write and edit custom PHP and JavaScript code snippets that work in conjunction with WordPress core and Elementor Pro.  
• Build pages and reusable Elementor templates from Figma designs with accurate attention to layout, spacing, typography, and color specifications. 
• Proactively identify missing design elements or ambiguities and request clarification rather than making assumptions.  
• Provide feedback, suggestions, or alternative solutions when conflicts arise between design vision and platform capability, including recommendations for improved workflows or technical approaches.  
• Develop and implement enhancements to the WordPress administrative panel to improve content management workflows.  
• Maintain website functionality, including plugin updates, testing and reverting changes, site-level redirects, bug fixes, and general troubleshooting.  
• Research and implement solutions for new feature requests, including testing plugins or building new API integrations as needed.  
• Manage timelines and deliverables, and provide status updates within Monday Project Boards. 
• Participate in team meetings as needed to answer development-specific questions and provide updates. 

Contract Deliverables

• Build high-quality Web pages and reusable Elementor templates from Figma Designs. 
• Suggest and implement enhancements and new initiatives for functionality and content management workflows. 
• Provide feedback and alternative solutions to enhance platform capabilities and improve workflows. 
• Work as a trusted partner to understand messaging goals and content needs, translate into specifications, and ensure alignment with platform capabilities 
• Support safe development practices by managing development and production environments, proactively requesting new environments when work may impact production.  
• Assist with WPEngine hosting management, including configurations, performance recommendations, and platform updates. 
• Contribute to streamlining and refining existing development-to-production processes. 

Contract Management

The independent contractor will submit all deliverables to the Web Solutions Manager, who will manage this contract and monitor progress towards deliverables.   

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in WordPress development and web design implementation. 
• Demonstrated experience writing or editing custom PHP and JavaScript code snippets that work in conjunction with WordPress and Elementor Pro 
• Proven ability to build pages from Figma designs with strong attention to design specifications and detail 
• Experience working with Elementor Pro and Advanced Custom Fields Pro 
• Experience with PHP 8.2+ and MySQL 8.0.17+ 
• Knowledge of SCSS, JS, and JSON 
• Experience managing plugins, updates, testing, and troubleshooting conflicts 
• Experience handling site-level redirects and break/fix scenarios 

Skills & Abilities

• Strong CSS knowledge and competency in JavaScript (framework agnostic) 
• Strong communication and project management skills, including the ability to proactively present technical challenges, suggest alternatives, and communicate timelines and delays 
• Problem-solving mindset with the ability to suggest improved solutions and alternative approaches to non-technical stakeholders 
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and prioritization skills 
• Familiarity with WPEngine hosting environments, or similar systems, including managing backups and performing environment restorations 
• Understanding of version control systems and development-to-production processes 

Other

• Ability to adjust availability to overlap with U.S. Eastern Time (ET) business hours for virtual meetings and cross-functional collaboration 
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote consulting environment 
• Interest in supporting RTSL's mission

Preferred (not required) experience

• Knowledge of accessibility best practices 
• Familiarity with the Google Analytics ecosystem and data visualization tools 
• Familiarity with CPT UI and Code Snippets plugins 
• Experience with technical SEO fixes and optimization 
• Experience with web animation implementation 
• Experience with WPEngine hosting 
• Server-side knowledge or experience 
• Experience with Looker Studio, including editing and streamlining dashboards for audience and funnel tracking
