SCOPE OF POSITION:

Reporting to the Manager of Policy & Advocacy, the Advocacy and Communications Assistant supports the Policy, Campaigns and Communications department with a range of tasks focused on our public engagement activities. The assistant has experience working in an office environment using a range of digital tools and enjoys interacting with the public.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (This is not an exhaustive list of duties to be performed)

  • Supports the communications team with updates to the website, social media monitoring and listening, transcribing content, and scoping out stories.
  • Supports public engagement activities, including tabling at events.
  • Supports the policy and advocacy team with desk research on relevant policy issues, updating government contacts, and drafting policy documents.
  • Assists the Manager of Policy with projects, administrative, and clerical duties as required.
  • Maintains data and files for department projects and contracts.
  • Other general office or administrative tasks, as required.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES:

  • Currently pursuing degree in relevant field of study (such as Political Science, Gender/Women’s Studies, Communications, Education) or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working within an office environment.
  • Experience using a range of digital tools, such as Microsoft Office, social media platforms, Asana, WordPress.
  • Excellent writing skills, experience writing blogs.
  • Commitment to Oxfam’s mission and strategic focus on women’s rights and gender justice.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Capacity to take direction, work in a self-directed manner and exceptional skills working within a team setting.
  • Capacity to work in English.
  • Willingness to sign and abide by the Oxfam Code of Conduct.
