Overview

We seek a consultant (June–November 2025) to evaluate the National Member Council (NMC) model and support the planning and facilitation of a one-day in-person strategy retreat ahead of our annual flagship conference, Making Money Make Change. The consultant will work closely with NMC participants, member chapters, and staff to assess the current structure, identify opportunities for improvement, and help lay the groundwork for NMC’s next chapter.

Scope of Work

Evaluation and Internal Support (June–August)

  • Conduct interviews, focus groups, and/or listening sessions with member chapters, working groups, and current and former NMC representatives.

  • Attend and support regular NMC meetings and action items to build understanding "from the inside." (monthly steering committee meetings, as well as some monthly sub-committee meetings)

  • Seek to understand:

    • NMC members’ assessments of their own work and the current NMC model

    • NMC members’ assessments of barriers and challenges to success

  • Pay particular attention to:

    • Health and strength of staff-member relationships

    • Effectiveness of representation and governance structures

    • Strength of peer-led, cross-country learning and action within the member base

Making Money Make Change – NMC Retreat Support (September–November)

  • Co-develop, alongside NMC members, the agenda and desired outcomes for a one-day, in-person strategy retreat for NMC members before Making Money Make Change.
  • Support logistics coordination as needed (in collaboration with staff).
  • Attend the retreat in person and facilitate discussions to help surface insights, build alignment, and develop shared next steps

Final Recommendations (November)

  • Produce a brief written report recommending:
    • 1–3 next steps for addressing key challenges for the NMC
    • 1–3 next steps for addressing key challenges for RG organizing staff

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with organizational evaluation, facilitation, and strategic planning
  • Deep understanding of member-led structures, governance models, and movement-building culture
  • Strong skills in interviewing, synthesizing qualitative data, and surfacing actionable insights
  • Excellent facilitation and consensus-building skills
  • Experience supporting retreats or in-person gatherings
  • Commitment to racial and economic justice

Nice-to-have

  • Familiarity with Resource Generation and our membership

Contract Terms

  • Duration: June–November 2025
  • Compensation: TBD not to exceed $13,500
  • This is a remote, contractor role, with one in-person event required.
