BACKGROUND

IsraAID is an Israel-based non-governmental organization that was founded in 2001 and has, since its inception, worked in emergency and long-term development settings in over 55 countries. IsraAID’s mission is to support people affected by humanitarian crises by partnering with local communities around the world to provide urgent aid, assist recovery, and reduce the risk of future disasters.

We are therefore seeking experienced, self-motivated, highly competent individuals with exemplary ethical conduct to fill the position of Health/WASH Officer based in Renk county.

Job PURPOSE

The Health and WASH Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring integrated Basic primary health packages and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities aimed at improving community health outcomes in vulnerable populations in Renk county. This role ensures coordination and quality delivery of interventions that reduce waterborne diseases, promote hygiene behaviours, and improve access to health services.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Health Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of community health interventions, including disease prevention, immunization support, and maternal and child health promotion.
  • Coordinate with health partners to ensure availability and accessibility of quality health services for target communities.
  • Support health awareness campaigns focusing on hygiene, nutrition, disease control, and health-seeking behaviours.
  • Collect, analyse, and report health-related data for monitoring and evaluation.

WASH Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement community-based WASH programs, including water supply, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene promotion.
  • Conduct community mobilization and hygiene education sessions to encourage behaviour change and reduce health risks.
  • Monitor water quality, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices in project areas and provide technical guidance as needed.
  • Collaborate with local authorities and partners for effective WASH service delivery and emergency response.
  • Support maintenance of WASH facilities and oversee water and sanitation contractors or vendors.

Cross-cutting Responsibilities:

  • Ensure protection mainstreaming and gender-sensitive approaches in all activities.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with stakeholders, donors, and community representatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to project reporting and documentation.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response activities related to health and WASH.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the line manager or administrator.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

  • Degree or Diploma in Public Health, Environmental Health, WASH Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working in health and/or WASH programs in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Knowledge of South Sudan’s health and WASH challenges and best practices.
  • Experience in community mobilization, hygiene promotion, and capacity building.
  • Strong coordination, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to adapt to challenging environments and work under pressure.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
