Position Summary:

OceanX Education is seeking an Immersive / Realtime Mixed Reality Intern to support the development of innovative VR, AR, and real-time interactive experiences that educate and inspire audiences about the ocean. This role will collaborate with designers, educators, scientists, gaming studios, and industry partners to create immersive content using OceanX media, including photogrammetry and game-ready assets.

This intern will contribute across the full project lifecycle - from early concept development through final execution - working in real-time engines such as Unreal Engine and visual programming environments such as TouchDesigner.

This is a paid opportunity. This program will run from June through August and involves working approximately 40 hours per week. This opportunity operates in a hybrid work schedule in our Singapore office to allow for in-person meetings/collaboration. This role will require availability to overlap across time zones between our NY and Singapore offices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research and experiment with emerging spatial computing and immersive technologies to advance ocean storytelling.
  • Collaborate with OceanXplorer scientific missions to create location-based VR/AR experiences grounded in real expeditions.
  • Work with the OceanX Digital Programs team to deliver VR and AR experiences across devices such as Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro, and other supported hardware platforms.
  • Develop interactive content using Unreal Engine, including Blueprint visual scripting.
  • Create immersive experiences for non-traditional display formats such as:
    • Trifold and multi-screen environments
    • Volumetric LED displays
    • Projection-mapped and installation-based systems
  • Build real-time visual experiences using TouchDesigner for museums, events, and live activations.
  • Design and support interactive, location-based museum exhibits.
  • Support immersive programs aboard a vessel when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  
Qualifications:

Professional Experience:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Digital Media, Computer Science, Game Design, Spatial Computing, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience creating VR/AR experiences using Unreal Engine.
  • Experience deploying immersive content across platforms such as Meta, Apple Vision Pro, or handheld AR devices.
  • Experience with TouchDesigner for real-time visual programming and interactive installations.
  • Familiarity with non-standard display technologies (LED volumes, multi-screen configurations, projection mapping) is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a small, fast-moving team.
  • Willingness to support on-site program operations, including aboard a vessel.
