London United Kingdom

Department: Mobile for Development (M4D)

Location: London with hybrid working
Position type: Permanent

About the Team

Mobile for Development (M4D) is a dedicated global team within the GSMA, which brings together our mobile operator members, tech innovators, the development community and governments, to prove the power of mobile in underserved markets. We identify opportunities and deliver innovations with socio-economic impact that tackle the challenges of digital and financial inclusion, gender equality, climate and humanitarian action, agriculture and utility service provision.

This position sits across M4D’s Central Insights Unit (CIU) and EmergingTech (ET) programme. The CIU sits at the core of M4D and produces thought-leadership research on mobile and frontier technologies and the impact of their application in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The CIU works closely with our main funding partner – the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the rest of M4D to ensure that research highlights the role of mobile, draws on the expertise held internally, and builds capacity within FCDO across their regional offices.

The development of AI and other emerging technologies presents the opportunity to further bridge the digital divide in LMICs. The ET programme, through our research activities and market engagement functions, identifies, promotes, informs and supports opportunities for emerging technology to create sustainable and inclusive socio-economic and climate impact, along with supporting activities of the Innovation Fund and advocacy teams.

What the hiring manager says

“This role is an opportunity for the right candidate to join the GSMA M4D Marketing Team and help support and promote research and innovations in using mobile technology to improve the lives of those in emerging markets. We are looking for someone who is not only energetic and eager to work collaboratively but also thrives in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will actively engage in producing innovative marketing deliverables for the CIU, ranging from social media campaigns to multimedia content creation. Additionally, they will collaborate with colleagues to establish and deliver a comprehensive marketing strategy, from brand awareness to key messaging for the new ET programme. The ability to manage multiple projects efficiently, communicate clearly and effectively, and demonstrate adaptability, creativity, and strong attention to detail are essential qualities for success in this role.”
Sophie Pitcher, Senior Marketing Manager, Mobile for Development
