Petrochemicals Analyst, South Asia (India – Remote)


The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a Petrochemicals Analyst in India. This role will focus on the economic, financial and market aspects of the petrochemical industry in India and assist the team in accelerating a just transition from oil and gas in alignment with climate commitments, with an immediate freeze on the build-up of petrochemical infrastructure.


We are looking for an experienced economics and finance professional with strong expertise in India's petrochemical sector and hands-on analytical experience. They would be self-motivated, able to work independently, able to multitask, set priorities and meet deadlines with limited direction while working remotely. They must also possess a commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable and profitable energy economy.


IEEFA is a global NGO/not-for-profit think tank that conducts research and analysis on financial and economic issues related to energy markets, trends and policies. Headquartered in the United States, IEEFA has a team of analysts and communications personnel located across the globe. Our dynamic India-based team works collaboratively with IEEFA internationally and in the region across different research areas, including the petrochemical, coal, gas, and electricity markets.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on economic implications, financial mechanisms, and market analysis to evaluate the role of petrochemicals in the country’s economy, the financial performance of the key petrochemical actors and the petrochemical market’s growth trajectory.
  • Conduct horizon scanning for petrochemical industry developments by reviewing articles, annual reports, investor presentations, and industry publications related to the industry.
  • Prepare forecasts and analysis of trends in the Indian petrochemical industry.
    Collects economic data from established datasets and other sources, utilising data collection and data science protocols.
  • Utilises statistical analysis, mathematical methodologies, and modelling techniques to develop data.
  • Engage with relevant external stakeholders (e.g. regulators, banking institutions, investors, MDB’s) in India and abroad, and represent IEEFA at meetings and industry events
  • Collaborate with team members and work independently to research and write original, compelling, and professional reports and commentaries on India’s petrochemical industry.
  • Drafting, formatting and proofing reports, submissions, press releases and presentations
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • 2-4 years’ experience in economics or finance, with experience related to the Indian petrochemical industry (petrochemicals, agrochemicals, plastics) is preferred
  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or engineering and/or with professional certifications (e.g. CFA) or appropriate and relevant market-oriented experience in lieu of those degrees
  • Comprehensive experience in analysing the industry growth’s impact on the economy, financial reporting, stocks, and investment portfolios
  • Proficient understanding of finance, economics and quantitative analysis.
  • Understanding of policy and regulatory landscape in the petrochemical industry, with a focus on India
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through publications, reports, commentaries and liaising with regulators/ government stakeholders.
  • High degree of technological proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and demonstrated ability to learn new software and applications
  • Commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable economy


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience of the macroeconomic analysis.
  • Be team-oriented with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion


Compensation and Benefits
Full-time 12-month fixed-term employment contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement and market-competitive remuneration. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity.


Work Schedule
Full-time, 5 days/week with occasional evening or weekend work as required.


Travel
Some travel is required. All global team members attend IEEFA’s annual conference and regional or international team retreat.


Physical Demand and Work Environment.
Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back, and neck strain.
