CPI manages several programs and knowledge products, and is unique in its focus on finance, analytical rigor, and convening ability. Among other initiatives, CPI manages a set of large programs from our US-based offices:

• The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (the Lab), a public-private partnership developed in 2014. The Lab is an incubator program that identifies, develops, stress tests, and helps launch innovative financial mechanisms that attract private capital into sectors key to a sustainable economy. In over ten years, the Lab has launched 78 instruments, which have collectively mobilized over USD 4.2 billion in climate action and has proven to be a successful model.

• The Catalytic Climate Finance Facility (the CC Facility), a program focused on scaling sustainable climate finance by providing market acceleration services to market-ready climate finance vehicles in under-financed sectors in developing countries, with emphasis on gender equality and local capacity. The CC Facility aims to be a climate finance field builder by increasing the available pipeline of bankable solutions. It addresses a market need and gap in the development process of financial vehicles occurring in the acceleration stages by providing a full suite of tools to scale solutions faster. The program is managed as a partnership between Convergence and CPI, and in 2 years of operations, it has built a portfolio of 17 vehicles that have collectively mobilized over USD 180 million.

• The Finance in Common Financial Innovation Lab (FiCS Lab), a collaboration between Finance in Common and the Inter-American Development Bank to support public development banks in mobilizing private capital and expanding climate finance. The FiCS Lab incubates innovative financial solutions and provides a platform for PDBs to share knowledge, exchange best practices, and develop new approaches to financing sustainable development.

Position Summary

CPI is recruiting for a Project Delivery Lead position that will support CPI’s work across programs in the US offices. Reporting to the Country Delivery Lead, the Project Delivery Lead will operate largely autonomously to manage the key elements of budget and resource planning and financial and narrative reporting processes for the Lab, the CC Facility, and the FiCS Lab, as well as additional projects as necessary depending on team needs and PDL availability. This position sits at the nexus between CPI’s research, finance, and operations teams. You will gain exposure to a wide array of projects in the international climate finance space whilst drawing on the CPI world class technical team focused on catalyzing investment in climate solutions by supporting cutting-edge financial mechanisms and impactful research.

You will need to quickly develop a solid understanding of the project objectives, workstreams, strategy, budgets, and governance, as well as of CPI’s internal project and budget management processes. You will further develop and support the program implementation and governance, including developing relationships with internal stakeholders. You will possess a calm, diplomatic approach, demonstrating resilience under pressure and a positive outlook to work effectively and collaboratively in a challenging context managing a diverse and dispersed set of stakeholders.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Project Delivery Lead will be assigned primary duties including, but not limited to those outlined below:

• Lead tracking of financial spending, budget health, and other key performance metrics in coordination with Lab, CC Facility, and FiCS Lab program teams and CPI Finance staff.

• Lead discussions with the Lab, CC Facility, and FiCS Lab program teams and the Country Delivery Lead on staff and consultant resourcing requirements.

• Lead ongoing financial forecasting for the Lab, CC Facility, and FiCS Lab to support program and project lead on identifying funding gaps and business development needs and opportunities for assigned programs.

• Prepare narrative reporting through both internal project management tools and reporting to clients, and work with CPI Finance team to develop financial reports.

• Coordinate business development process, including managing timelines, gathering input from the Program team, and navigating the CPI proposal development process.

• Support engagement with funder finance and operation teams where budget or contract changes are required.

• Work with assigned teams to provide ad hoc support and inputs including support for program managers with tools and templates in business development and grant application processes, including project proposals, budgeting, and contracting.

Qualifications & experience

• BA or BS degree required with professional experience in project management in the fields of international development, sustainability, climate change, or another relevant field.

• At least 3+ years of progressive professional experience managing high-profile programs / grants for government, business, and/or NGOs; evidence of increasing budget and resource management responsibilities is required.

• Exposure to emerging markets and developing economies context is desirable.

• Familiarity with international climate finance and/or climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience and/or biodiversity issues would be an advantage.

Competencies

• Exceptional project management skills. A PMP certification will be hugely beneficial in this role. Otherwise, CPI will also help provide training support to achieve PMP certification.

• Ability to confidently work autonomously and coordinate the work of others effectively.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and prioritization skills, and an ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

• Flexibility, professionalism, enthusiasm for working as part of a team, and an ability to interact with a diverse array of people based in various geographies.

• Fluency in English required (written, verbal).

• Deep commitment to the mission and values of CPI.

Title & compensation

This position is a full-time (40 hours) position based in our San Francisco or Washington, D.C. office.

CPI has adopted a hybrid working policy with 2 days in the office strongly preferred.

CPI offers an excellent competitive compensation and benefits package, with a salary range of $95,000 - $114,000 per annum depending upon experience.
