Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Communications leads Black Feminist Future’s design and digital presence, shaping how our brand looks, feels, and moves externally and across platforms. This role oversees visual identity, design systems, digital platforms, content operations, distribution strategy, and audience growth. Supporting the Associate Director of Communications, the Senior Manager manages content publishing, digital calendars, and engagement systems while executing BFF’s broader communications strategy. This position bridges storytelling and systems, ensuring BFF’s digital channels are cohesive, vibrant, joyful, and politically sharp, while maintaining a consistent brand across social media, mobile messaging, website, and database-driven communications.
As a key driver of visibility and thought leadership, the Senior Manager of Communications is a creative thinker, skilled copywriter, and compelling storyteller who translates strategy into bold, dynamic digital action. This role builds and nurtures community across platforms, pushes content across multiple channels, and implements digital strategies that amplify the power of Black feminist leaders, organizations, and movements. Grounded in BFF’s mission to galvanize the social and political power of Black feminisms as a blueprint for liberation, the Senior Manager ensures BFF’s digital presence is impactful, movement-aligned, and designed for growth.
Position Notice
Employees of Black Feminist Future work across the 501(c)(3) organization and its 501(c)(4) arm, Black Feminist Future Action Fund, to maintain alignment and cohesion of organizational strategy and objectives across both entities, as established by the Executive Director. This role is also not a people management position and is, therefore, subject to a Collective bargaining agreement through union representation.
General Responsibilities
The specific duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
Content Development & Project Management
- Work closely with the Associate Director of Communications to implement a content strategy for the organization, leveraging our owned channels: website and social media.
- Regularly curate existing content and occasionally coordinate with videographers and photographers to develop original content for BFF campaigns, cross-team, and organization-wide events.
- Manage BFF’s social media calendar, leveraging external strategic media moments while prioritizing BFF’s overarching communications plan.
- Maintain BFF’s digital asset library and organize content for reuse and accessibility.
Social Media
- Implement the department’s comprehensive digital strategy for BFF’s social media presence, which aligns with overall communications objectives.
- Oversee BFF’s LinkedIn, Instagram, and Thread channels, including content development, scheduling, and audience engagement strategies to maximize reach.
- Lead copywriting for all social media posts, with content ideation and support from BFF’s digital team.
- Stay on top of emerging trends, best practices, and new features on social channels and proactively integrate them into the strategy.
- Report on engagement metrics using channel-specific data insights.
- Possess a keen understanding of the relationship between owned and earned media channels with expertise in leveraging owned digital channels.
Digital Platforms, Data & Web Management
- Manage EveryAction CRM for list segmentation, tagging, and campaign performance tracking.
- Update and maintain website content in WordPress.
- Track engagement metrics and support monthly performance reporting.
- Support the ongoing management of BFF’s website, ensuring consistency and alignment with a brand style guide.
- Manage project-specific sites (etc. VLABF, Jubilee) and migrate BFF’s smaller sites, with a long-term goal of housing content under a unified web presence.
- Continually update web content to align with overall communications objectives and media campaigns.
- Ensure the website is up to date on all security features.
Graphic Design / Visual Communication
- Maintain brand consistency across all platforms and materials
- Design and create collateral for organization, fundraising, events, and campaigns
- Design BFF’s annual impact report

Candidate Profile
You will be a strong candidate for the Senior Manager, Communications position if you possess the following attributes and competencies:
Passion and Commitment
- Commitment to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and inclusiveness
- Commitment to Black feminisms, the desire to break up with patriarchy to confront disparities against Black women, girls, and gender-expansive people, and the belief that digital storytelling and shifting narratives can create change
- Experience
- Minimum 7+ years of proven experience as a social/digital media specialist or in a similar strategic communications role, preferably in a mission-driven setting
- Previous experience drafting and copy-editing social media campaigns
- Knowledge in video production, editing, and optimization for online platforms, with a strong understanding of storytelling techniques and visual communication principles
- Proven record of developing and disseminating compelling and comprehensive communications campaigns for social channels
- Familiarity with podcast production is preferred but not required
- Experience designing and delivering issue-based campaigns preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Strong creative communication skills as a way to draw new and existing members in and build community
- Extensive knowledge of digital and social media platforms and best practices on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Threads
- Strong project management skills, including prioritizing tasks, executing deliverables, and meeting concurrent deadlines
- Experience with project management platforms such as Asana, or similar
- Experience curating relevant news/updates/trends and developing original content
- Excellent copywriting and editing skills, as well as a keen eye for and familiarity with graphic design

Travel
35% of travel is expected, including but not limited to BFF’s weeklong semiannual all-staff advances, occurring in the spring and fall of each calendar year, and attendance at departmental advances. Intermittent travel related to BFF programming needs may also occur.
Location
Black Feminist Future is a hybrid organization based in Atlanta, GA. Staff work both remotely and in the office, and in-person staff and team meetings and in-office visits are mandatory throughout the year. This position can be performed anywhere in the continental United States.
