Position Summary:

The WASH Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day WASH hardware and software implementation such as rehabilitation /construction of water points, Water supply system, construction of sanitation facilities, hygiene promotion activities etc.in the field.

S/he will work closely both with Relief International field office Management, Project and Support staff in the above-mentioned County, to ensure the smooth implementation of the program according to approved work plan, budgets and required quality.

Key Responsibilities

The WASH Assistant;

  • Works as advised and instructed by WASH Coordinator on all WASH hardware and software implementation.
  • Support the WASH Officer and team to carry out WASH assessments in the targeted areas.
  • Mobilize the communities and relevant Government officials for the meetings and assessments.
  • Facilitate site assessments and selection of rightful beneficiary communities.
  • Support the WASH officer to conduct baseline and KAP surveys
  • Arrange and facilitate the formation of WASH and Water Users committees.
  • Support to provide the training to Water Users committees, Pump mechanics and community hygiene promoters.
  • Keep the record of all segregated WASH beneficiary’s achievement and update to WO time to time.
  • Ensure good coordination and working relationships with Maben County Local authority and beneficiaries.
  • Mobilize community to fully participate in the project implementation for sustainability.
  • Conduct him/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Relief International and not to jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  • Carry out any other duties or activities assigned to by the supervisor(s) from time to time

Reporting:

  • Daily reporting of all WASH activities and its beneficiary’s achievement.

Qualification and Minimum Requirements:

Applicants should.

  • Diploma or Certificate in public Health, environmental health, water engineering.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Basic understanding of:
    • Water supply systems (boreholes, piped systems, water treatment)
    • Sanitation facilities (latrines, waste management)
    • Hygiene promotion practices
  • Conduct community hygiene education sessions
  • Support construction/rehabilitation of WASH facilities
  • Carry out water quality testing
